The United States has some of the most historical landmarks and sites in the world. Chief among them are museums that visitors from far and wide visit each year in the millions.

If you are thinking about seeing the best museums that the U.S. has to offer, this is the list for you. These are without a doubt some of the greatest museums in the U.S.

Metropolitan Museum of Art – NYC

There is so much to do in the Big Apple that you may find yourself taking several trips to take in all that there is to see. Without a doubt, one of the most important things that visitors can partake in is the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

With works covering more than two million square feet, there are some of the most famous artists in the world to enjoy here. Manet, Monet, Renoir, van Gogh, Degas, Picasso, and so many more all adorn the walls of “the Met.”

Art Institute of Chicago – Chicago

Right in the heart of one of the most famous cities in the country, the Art Institute also features some of the world’s great masterpieces. From Grant Wood’s American Gothic to Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks, there are a plethora of true gems to enjoy no matter when you visit.

Even if you aren’t an art buff, there is definitely something worth noting. The museum was featured in some of the most iconic scenes in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, a 1980s classic featuring Matthew Broderick.

National 9/11 Memorial & Museum – NYC

Though this is a more painful museum of modern history, it is part of the great city of New York. There is no forgetting that fateful day in 2001, and this memorial/museum helps to paint a picture of that day and what it means to the United States.

Though the main exhibit covers the 2001 attack, it does also discuss the attack that happened in February of 1993 as well. The memorial section has a touch-screen that shows remembrances for each of the victims as well. It is a touching, beautiful way to see American history, its impact on society, and how the nation fought back from adversity of the highest order.
